1991년 단편 〈서울길〉을 시작으로 30여 년간 독립영화의 길을 걸어온 영화감독 겸 제작자입니다.
Kim Daehyun is a filmmaker and producer who has dedicated over three decades to independent cinema, beginning with his debut short The Way to Seoul in 1991.
고려대학교 경영학과를 졸업 후 동국대학교 대학원 연극영화학과에서 영화를 전공했으며, 용인대학교 예술대학원 3D 첨단영상제작학과를 석사(MFA)로 졸업했습니다. 학문적 탐구와 현장 경험을 겸비한 방식으로 한국 사회의 소외된 목소리들을 스크린 위에 복원해왔습니다.
He studied Business Administration at Korea University before pursuing film at Dongguk University Graduate School. He holds an MFA from Yongin University's Graduate School of Arts. Combining academic rigour with hands-on experience, he has brought marginalised voices of Korean society to the screen.
인디라인 대표로서 1994년 한국독립영화 라이브러리를 설립하여 국내 최초로 단편 독립영화를 케이블 채널에 배급했습니다. 봉준호 감독의 〈백색인〉, 김성수 감독의 〈비명도시〉 등을 배급하며 한국 독립영화의 길을 열었고, 1995년 서울국제독립영화제를 창설하여 국제 무대로 이어나갔습니다. 동국대학교, 추계예술대학교 출강 및 고려대, 성공회대, 숙명여대, 아주대, 서울대 등 다수 대학 특강과 전국 워크샵을 진행해왔습니다.
As Chief Director of INDELINE, he established the Korean Independent Film Library in 1994 — the first organisation to distribute Korean short films through cable channels, releasing works by directors Bong Joon-ho and Kim Sung-su. He founded the Seoul International Independent Film Festival in 1995, pioneering international exposure for Korean indie cinema. He has lectured at Dongguk and Chugye University for the Arts, and given guest lectures at Korea University, Sungkonghoe University, Sookmyung Women's University, Ajou University, and Seoul National University.
2024년 〈정돌이〉와 〈흙의 숨, 진도이야기〉를 완성하며 창작 활동을 이어가고 있으며, 2026년 뉴스타파 다큐멘터리 〈종걸과 이치노헤〉를 발표했습니다.
In 2024 he completed Poliboy (released theatrically February 2025) and A Breath of Earth, Jindo Story. In 2026 he premiered Jonggol and Ichinohe on Newstapa.
